What is a block pallet?

The block pallet gets its name from the blocks that form its base. There are typically 9 blocks in a block pallet, with a solid wood block placed in each of the four corners, in the center of each side of the pallet, and in the center of the pallet itself to support the unit load.

A block pallet is also known as a “four-way” pallet because the tines of a pallet jack or forklift can access and lift it from all four sides of the pallet. Block pallets can be designed with or without bottom deckboards.

Block pallets are commonly thought to be stronger and more durable than stringer pallets because they utilize both parallel stringers and perpendicular blocks, but as you’ll see from the head to head test below, that’s not necessarily true.

Application Of  Block Pallet

One of the major reasons why you would favor block pallets over stringer pallets has to do with the idea that they’re generally believed to be stronger and more durable. Yes, stringer pallets may be more common, but if you have a heavy load that needs to be specially protected during transport, a block pallet may be the way to go.

The static load size of a wooden stringer pallet is between 2,200 to 2,500 pounds, for example.

That’s certainly a lot of weight, but consider that the standard load size of a wood block pallet is up to 5,500 pounds. That’s a major difference and you can ship a lot more with a fraction of the effort required. Note, however, that block pallets tend to weigh between 75 and 80 pounds by design, so if that is a concern you’ll want to factor it into your decision as to which type of pallet to use

What Is A Wood Pallet Block Making Machine?

Wood pallet block making machines can extrude biomass raw materials such as sawdust and wood shavings into solid blocks under high temperature and high pressure conditions. The finished wood blocks can be cut and used to make the feet of wooden pallets. Wood pallet block making machine has a set of left and right symmetrical extrusion devices. The main structure of the machine includes feeding port, frame, heating plate, hydraulic cylinder, extrusion die, etc.

When the sawdust pallet block machine is working, its internal hydraulic device will push the sawdust entering from the feeding port to move forward. When the sawdust is pushed into the heating zone of the machine, the lignin in the sawdust and other biomass feedstocks is thermally decomposed and fully bonded to the molecules in the feedstock.

Therefore, sawdust blocks processed by wood pallet block making machine usually have smooth surface, high density and hardness, very wear-resistant and strong load-bearing capacity.

Raw Materials For Making Wood Pallet Block

There are many raw materials for processing wood blocks, and almost all biomass chips can be used for production. The most common processing raw materials are sawdust and wood shavings, coconut fiber, straw scraps, etc.

Main features required for raw materials

Material size: less than 5 mm. We can use the wood shredder to shred all kinds of biomass waste, such as branches, wood scraps, tree roots, logs, waste wood boards, etc., into sawdust and wood shavings with a size of 3-5mm.

Matrial humidity: less than 10%. The humidity of raw materials such as sawdust and wood shavings should not exceed 10%. If the humidity of the raw material is too high, the quality of the finished product will be poor, and the processing efficiency will be very low. We can use the sawdust dryer to continuously dry the raw materials and quickly reduce the moisture content of the raw materials.

How Does Wood Pallet Block Machine Work?

    • The raw materials are thoroughly mixed with the glue using a glue mixer .
    • The mixed raw materials are then fed into the machine through a feed port .
    • The machine’s feeding port is designed with a stirring and blanking mechanism to prevent material blockages .
  3. Shaping and Extrusion:
    • The mixed raw materials pass through the high pressure of a hydraulic cylinder in the machine .
    • The hydraulic pressure forces the wood chips to be shaped and extruded .
    • Simultaneously, the heating plate at a high temperature promotes the solidification and molding of the glue .
  4. Cutting and Finalizing:
    • The extruded wood blocks are then cut into uniform lengths by a saw at the machine’s discharge port .
    • The final blocks are cooled and solidified before being ready for use as load-bearing feet for pallets .
